Position: Streets Maintenance Technician I, II, III, IV - Asphalt

Summary

Technician I Salary Range – If hired as Technician I (W1): $42,431.01 - $61,526.40 annually; $20.39 - $29.58 hourly.

Technician II Salary Range – If hired as Technician II (W2): $44,977.43 - $65,218.80 annually; $21.62 - $31.35 hourly.

Technician III Salary Range – If hired as Technician III (W3): $47,676.50 - $69,132.54 annually; $22.92 - $33.23 hourly.

Technician IV Salary Range – If hired as Technician IV (W4): $50,537.36 - $73,280.88 annually; $24.29 - $35.23 hourly.

Summary Of Position

Under direct supervision of the Streets Supervisor, the purpose of this position is to perform general repair and maintenance of streets, drainage systems, signs, and signals. Employees in this classification perform manual level work. This position is responsible for assisting in the preparation of work areas, tools, equipment, and may perform other related functions as assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Participate in all phases of streets, gutter drainage and alley repair and construction.
  • Assist in preparing work areas and securing job sites by setting up cones, barricades, and other traffic control devices.
  • Prepare tools, materials, and equipment for various job assignments.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools by cleaning and servicing regularly.
  • Make repairs in pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalk using epoxy-based products under supervision.
  • Operate simple to moderately complex equipment (e.g., concrete vibrator, jackhammer, concrete saw, pavement grinder) and hand tools.
  • Maintain operational records, schedules, and complete work orders.
  • Respond to emergency situations after hours and/or on weekends.
  • Assist with traffic control setup and teardown; guide traffic flow at work sites.
  • Assist with setup, teardown, and cleanup of special events and meetings.
  • Conduct safety inspections of vehicles and equipment; wear protective gear as required.
  • Assist other City employees during storms and national disasters.
  • Comply with all City policies and procedures; adhere to assigned work schedule.

If assigned to asphalt

  • Assist with crack seal operations and asphalt finishing hand tools.
  • Assist with filling potholes with hot mix asphalt.
  • Assist with pavement reconstruction and repairs.

If assigned to concrete

  • Assist with setting up forms and rebar; assist crew with small hand tools.

If assigned to drainage

  • Assist with elevations, setting up forms and rebar, and carrying small debris from areas such as creeks and lakes.

Other Job Functions
