Job Title
Under general supervision, performs technical tasks in the operation, maintenance and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Employees in this job series perform technical, manual work. Water Utilities Concrete Restoration Technicians are responsible for repairing water utility cuts and operate and maintain moderate to complex equipment. They perform related work as required.
Essential Functions/Knowledge, Skills, & AbilitiesEssential duties and responsibilities include conducting basic supervised water maintenance, using and identifying hand tools, performing basic service and maintenance of tools and equipment, cleaning and repairing work site upon completion of construction or projects, identifying basic common water parts, assisting with setting up forms and rebar for street cut repairs, and working efficiently with iPads while entering work orders within City Works.
In addition to Level I responsibilities, when assigned to Water Utilities Concrete Restoration Technician II, duties include conducting basic water maintenance with limited supervision, operating light equipment, loading and unloading equipment, setting forms to grade for concrete pours, finishing concrete and building curbs, operating vac trailer and/or dump trucks, and connecting and disconnecting trailers and properly securing loads for transport to and from jobsite.
In addition to Level I & II responsibilities, when assigned to Water Utilities Concrete Restoration Technician III, duties include using GIS mapping to identify valves, hydrants, manholes, water mains, sewer mains, and water meters, conducting water maintenance with no supervision, operating heavy equipment with limited supervision, removing concrete from work area and loading into dump truck, assisting in training and leading others with work activities, demonstrating full proficiency while operating and maintaining concrete trucks, and creating and closing work orders in City Works.
In addition to Levels I, II, & III responsibilities, when assigned to Water Utilities Concrete Restoration Technician IV, duties include possessing advanced knowledge of all equipment, diagnosing problems within distribution system and identifying responsibility and relating appropriate work order in City Works, managing jobsite in the absence of crew leader, possessing advanced knowledge of GIS mapping; interpreting as-built drawings, creating and installing work zone traffic control in accordance with city standards, operating heavy equipment with no supervision, maintaining/acquiring knowledge of concrete mix designs, inventorying materials and ordering materials to complete work, and working with fleet to place trucks/equipment for repair and filling out proper paperwork.
Required QualificationsMinimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Texas Class C driver's license, and the ability to obtain a Texas Class A CDL within 12 months from the date of hire. Conditions of employment include passing a drug screen and background check, and having a Class C Texas Driver's License.
Physical Demands/SupplementalTasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.
There is limited exposure to environmental conditions. Tasks may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
