Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Title
Under general supervision, leads a crew in the maintenance and repair of the water distribution and wastewater collection system. Employees in this classification perform technical, manual work. This position is responsible for repairing water leaks, repairing and installing sewer and water mains, and operates and maintains moderate to complex equipment. Performs related work as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities include complying with City policies and procedures, adhering to assigned work schedules, inspecting job sites and enforcing safety procedures, operating and maintaining equipment, responding to citizen complaints and concerns, installing new water mains, locating and repairing water and sewer leaks, responding to emergency situations, maintaining and cleaning tools and job sites, and performing other duties as assigned.
Required QualificationsMinimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by two years previous experience and/or training involving water/wastewater construction, maintenance and repair type work, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must possess Texas Water Distribution C license or the ability to obtain within six months of employment. Must possess a valid Class A commercial driver's license. Must have completed appropriate National Incident Management System (NIMS) training courses or the ability to obtain within 6 months of employment.
Conditions of employment include passing a drug screen and background check, and being available for 12-hour shifts during storms or natural disasters.
Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds); may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 150 pounds). Some tasks require visual and odor perception and discrimination.
Work environment may require exposure to strong odors and/or smoke, traffic hazards, extreme heat/cold or extreme weather conditions.
