Summary of Position Under general supervision, performs line locating services on the entire water distribution and wastewater collection system owned and operated by the City of McKinney. Employees in this classification perform technical, manual work. This position is responsible for locating water/wastewater mains and services as requested by utility contractors, Dig Tess, or City personnel. Assist with repairs and installation of the water and wastewater system, and operates and maintains moderate to complex equipment.

Performs related work as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities Locates water and wastewater utility lines as requested based on available as-built or other mapped information. Locates valves for utility line repairs. Performs water line shut-downs as needed for contractors and City repair crews. Operates valves for utility contractors working on or near City utility lines. Provides water/wastewater utility line information to maintenance staff for repair. Operates equipment and hand machinery used in the maintenance and repair of water/wastewater utility lines, as needed.

Assists in ensuring safe operating conditions per work site, i.e. traffic hazards, equipment operation, required barricades, road and site areas as needed. Completes work orders, reports and maintenance logs. Inspects job sites and enforces safety procedures. Operates, checks, and maintains moderate to complex equipment. Responds to citizen complaints and concerns. Responds to emergency situations after hours or on weekends. Serves on callout crew, as needed.

Installs new water mains of various sizes. Disinfects and prepares new mains for testing and sampling. Locates and repairs water leaks on water mains. Makes water taps for various size water mains. Locates and repairs sewer mains and manholes. Locates and unblocks stoppages in sewer mains. Performs and assists in the maintenance, installation, and repair of water/wastewater utility lines as needed.

Maintains/upgrades manholes. Operates jet flusher and dump truck. Maintains and cleans tools and job sites. Complies with all written City policies and procedures. Adheres to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
