Under general supervision, performs line locating services on the entire water distribution and wastewater collection system owned and operated by the City of McKinney. Employees in this classification perform technical, manual work. This position is responsible for locating water/wastewater mains and services as requested by utility contractors, Dig Tess, or City personnel. Assist with repairs and installation of the water and wastewater system, and operates and maintains moderate to complex equipment.
Performs related work as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities include locating water and wastewater utility lines as requested based on available as-built or other mapped information; locating valves for utility line repairs; performing water line shut-downs as needed for contractors and City repair crews; operating valves for utility contractors working on or near City utility lines; providing water/wastewater utility line information to maintenance staff for repair;
operating equipment and hand machinery used in the maintenance and repair of water/wastewater utility lines, as needed; assisting in ensuring safe operating conditions per work site, i.e. traffic hazards, equipment operation, required barricades, road and site areas as needed; completing work orders, reports and maintenance logs; inspecting job sites and enforcing safety procedures; operating, checking, and maintaining moderate to complex equipment;
responding to citizen complaints and concerns; responding to emergency situations after hours or on weekends; serving on callout crew, as needed; installing new water mains of various sizes. Disinfecting and preparing new mains for testing and sampling; locating and repairing water leaks on water mains. Making water taps for various size water mains; locating and repairing sewer mains and manholes.
Locating and unblocking stoppages in sewer mains; performing and assisting in the maintenance, installation, and repair of water/wastewater utility lines as needed; maintaining/upgrading manholes; operating jet flusher and dump truck; maintaining and cleaning tools and job sites; complying with all written City policies and procedures; adhering to assigned work schedule as outlined in City and department attendance policies and procedures.
