Overview
Position:
Principal Software Engineer – Mission Systems Engineering Team (DFW area).
Location:
McKinney, Texas. Onsite role with relocation offered where eligible. Compensation: $107,500 – $204,500 USD annually.
- Lead design, architecture, implementation and testing of real‑time software for radar systems and related sensor technologies.
- Serve as senior technical contributor, delegating work, reviewing code, and influencing engineering practices and policies.
- Provide system‑of‑systems systems thinking and architecture support, creating specification trees, multi‑CSCI decomposition, and system CONOPS.
- Collaborate closely with senior architects, technical fellows, hardware teams, and customer stakeholders to integrate across disciplines.
- Leverage modeling tools (Cameo/Enterprise Architect, MS Visio) and MOSA standards to communicate design decisions.
- Participate in major design reviews, including Preliminary Design Review (PDR) and Critical Design Review (CDR).
- Mentor, coach and develop less experienced engineers on architecture, coding standards, and best practices.
- Occasional business travel up to 5% of the time.
- Minimum 8 years of relevant engineering experience in software architecture for large, complex system‑of‑systems environments.
- Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM).
- Experience designing subsystem interfaces and integrating software with hardware and firmware on Linux, VxWorks or other real‑time operating systems.
- Proficient with C++ (or comparable language) and real‑time software development practices.
- Hands‑on experience with Git version control and continuous integration/deployment pipelines (CI/CD, static analysis, automated testing).
- Knowledge of MOSA standards (OMS, AMS‑GRA, A‑GRA) and modeling tools such as Cameo or Enterprise Architect.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving and ownership mindset.
- Ability to present complex technical material at design reviews and engage stakeholders.
- Security clearance: U.S. citizenship required with eligibility for a Secret clearance (special program access); active and existing clearance required after day one.
- Collaboration experience with firmware, hardware, and system engineering teams.
- Experience working in system integration laboratory (SIL) environments with physical hardware.
- Agile Scrum development practice knowledge.
- Experience with system integration lab environments that include software/hardware test benches and simulators.
