Transportation Maintenance Technician I, II or III

TxDOT's Collin County Maintenance Office with the Dallas District is looking for a Transportation Maintenance Technician I, II or III based in McKinney, TX. This position performs routine maintenance work related to transportation activities such as roadway repair, light and heavy equipment operation, preventive maintenance, minor repairs on equipment, traffic control, and assisting the public during emergency situations. This position is for a Transportation Maint. Tech I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level, and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description

Performs routine transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment; traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties

The essential duties for the Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II and III include:

• Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices
• Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards
• Maintains picnic and rest areas, rights-of-way, maintenance yards and comfort stations
• Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush
• Assists with inspecting maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• Performs all other job responsibilities as assigned

Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech II and III include:

• Inspects routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• Identifies, analyzes, and implements solutions for complex maintenance problems
• Inspects materials, equipment, and production procedures in a manufacturing plant or at point of supply to ensure construction materials meet Department specifications
• Works on a survey crew; operates survey instruments such as theodolite, transit and level, electronic distance meter, and total survey station

Additional duties for Transportation Maintenance Tech III include:

• Inspects routine and non-routine maintenance contract construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors build and maintain roadways, bridges, traffic signals and related highway structures in accordance with plans and specifications
• May serve as a work crew project lead ensuring work performed meets project specifications
• Trains other employees
