Property Accountant - Affordable Housing
Affordable housing experience NEEDED
Compensation: 95k + bonus
Location: 100% Remote (must be local to the DC/NOVA area; 1 day/week onsite for mail, check runs, etc.)
Our client is a highly respected real estate development and property management firm seeking a Senior Property Accountant to join its stable and collaborative accounting team. This role will oversee full‑cycle accounting for a diverse portfolio of properties, with a primary focus on affordable housing and additional exposure to residential, retail, and commercial assets.
Responsibilities- Manage day‑to‑day property accounting functions, including monthly financial reporting, account reconciliations, and wire approvals
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements and ensure accuracy across multiple entities
- Communicate with internal stakeholders and third‑party partners regarding reporting, distributions, and tax‑related documentation
- Support property transitions, acquisitions, and dispositions, including sale pr orations and closing schedules
- Partner with operations teams on budgeting, forecasting, cash funding requests, and variance reporting
- Assist with month‑end, year‑end, and audit processes in collaboration with senior property accounting leadership
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and maintain strong controls across accounting systems and reporting deadlines
- 2+ years of experience in real estate or property accounting, ideally with progression into a senior‑level role
- Affordable housing experience NEEDED
- Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and SUMIF functions
- Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline‑driven environment
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- Extremely stable accounting team with minimal turnover
