Assurance Senior Associate, Non-Profit & Healthcare
The Assurance Senior Associate will coordinate day‑to‑day audit duties including planning, fieldwork, and wrap‑up, preparing financial statements with disclosures, applying GAAP, and validating, testing and assessing internal control systems. The role serves as the client contact for basic inquiries, trains staff, and acts as the main liaison with BDO RISE.
Responsibilities- Apply knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and internal control principles to audit client financial statements and disclose requirements.
- Document, validate, and assess the design and operating effectiveness of client internal control systems.
- Communicate audit findings and suggested improvements to clients.
- Draft complex financial statements with disclosures and address new pronouncements.
- Develop and communicate audit plans, employing audit skepticism and determining appropriate testing scope.
- Coordinate day‑to‑day execution of audit plans, ensuring compliance with firm policies, tracking budget, and reporting variances.
- Use BDO audit manual and tools, archive audit evidence, and maintain audit documentation.
- Research complex accounting and regulatory issues, draw conclusions, and document impact on the audit engagement.
- Supervise and review work of audit associates, provide performance feedback, and help develop staff.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
- Master’s degree in Accountancy preferred.
- Three (3) or more years of public accounting experience.
- One (1) or more years of supervisory experience (preferred).
- Relevant experience in the healthcare industry (preferred).
- Experience with nonprofit audit (preferred).
- CPA preferred; actively pursuing completion preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with assurance applications and research tools beneficial.
- Strong written and verbal communication, analytical and diagnostic skills.
- Ability to multi‑task in a deadline‑driven environment and manage projects.
- Solid understanding of internal controls, GAAP and GAAS.
