Senior Consultant, Public Housing Authority

The Senior Consultant, Public Housing Authority is responsible for performing and overseeing the full cycle general accounting function and light consulting for clients in the affordable housing sector. Job duties include making constructive suggestions to improve client programs and policies, reviewing work papers and other work products that meet the client's requirements and PHA quality standards, researching program regulations and presenting findings to clients, leading the preparation and submission of housing subsidy applications and federal funding for programs for clients, providing basic and advanced accounting services to clients including year-end and monthly reconciliation and other HUD financial reporting and compliance items, etc.

The role also involves comprehending common financial statements and preparing draft financial information for review, conducting basic financial statement analysis and understanding the finance and accounting functions generally performed by a business, assisting in managing budgets on engagements to complete work timely and within clients' expected cost, planning basic engagements to include on-boarding and client delivery phases and developing an understanding of engagement economics (i.e., billing and time entry) and adhering to best practices, interacting with clients to gain information, documents, and data necessary to complete assigned tasks, identifying and organizing clients' financial information, preparing common financial reports and other schedules as requested, and formatting reports so they are easily read and understood by BDO management and clients.

The position also requires reviewing client information for accuracy and using deductive reasoning to identify anomalies or gaps and communicating significant client issues to supervisor, supporting drafting proposals and other documents explaining proposed solutions to clients, articulating BDO's value proposition and understanding our target market/client profile, applying our processes, systems, technology, and resources to manage workflow and ensuring proper documentation and work papers, and other duties as required.

Supervisory responsibilities include coaching less experienced consultants, providing verbal and written performance feedback to consultants, and supervising the work assignments of consultants with the engagement team.

Qualifications, knowledge, skills, and abilities include a bachelor's degree, required; focus in accounting, preferred. Three (3) or more years of accounting experience, required; three (3) or more years of experience in public accounting, preferred; one (1) or more years of supervisory experience, preferred. Actively pursuing completion of CPA licensing, required; CPA, preferred. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required;

experience with various accounting applications and research tools, preferred. Solid understanding of all stages to perform an audit of a basic public and/or private company, knowledge of internal accounting controls and professional standards and regulations, strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt style and messaging to effectively communicate with professionals at all levels, both within the client organization and the firm, ability to successfully multi-task while working independently and within a group environment, superior analytical and diagnostic skills and the ability to break down complex issues and implement appropriate resolutions, ability to work in a demanding, deadline driven environment with a focus on details and accuracy, understanding of grant programs and related rules and regulations, solid project management skills, and ability to visit the office, as needed.

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $90,000 - $100,000 Maryland Range: $90,000 - $100,000 NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $90,000 - $100,000
