Position: Director of Business Development, Legal, Compliance, and Risk (Healthcare)

Job Summary

Under the direction of the National Director, Channel Business Development, and in collaboration with practice leadership and the Chief Business Development Officer, the Director of Business Development, Legal, Compliance & Risk is responsible for driving, monitoring, and improving sales performance for BDO’s legal channel service offerings, including electronic discovery, digital forensics, information governance, cyber security, data analytics, forensic accounting, and investigations.

The role builds the sales presence, pursues new business opportunities, and closes sales in line with the Firm, regional and office business strategies.

Responsibilities
  • Develop new revenue opportunities for BDO's Services with primary target markets of attorneys, partners in top law firms, corporate counsel, compliance, and risk professionals.
  • Leverage a strong network of C‑Suite and legal market contacts to translate into new business.
  • Create and execute business development plans with Advisory Principals and Managing Directors in the local market.
  • Identify business development activities to drive opportunities and define cross‑selling and key account programs.
  • Facilitate monthly meetings with the Regional BD Director or designee and practice leaders to design, implement, and report on business development and marketing plans.
  • Collaborate with practice leaders to understand service capabilities and report on market perceptions, competitor activity, and market pulse.
  • Distribute business development plans, goals, and progress reports to Advisory practice leaders quarterly for feedback.
  • Facilitate monthly production of pursuit/pipeline reports.
  • Direct practice strategies and resources to improve sales effectiveness and maintain compliance with national processes.
  • Work alongside Principals to negotiate pricing and overall delivery of services with prospects.
  • Provide feedback to National Business Development Services on processes, templates, tools, etc.
  • Coordinate with BDO Alliance USA and BDO International member firms on initiatives as appropriate.
Supervisory Responsibilities

None.

Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree and five (5) or more years of business development/marketing experience in a professional services environment or industry‑relevant firm required; OR High School Diploma/GED and seven (7) or more years of business development/marketing experience in a professional services environment or industry‑relevant firm required.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or Marketing preferred.
  • Advanced Degree (JD, MBA) preferred.
Experience
  • Track record of developing business relationships with senior executives (CEOs, CFOs, Board of Directors, etc.) and referral sources (attorneys, bankers, etc.) required.
  • Experience working in professional services firms including accounting, cyber security, data analytics, software, business advisory services, and/or electronic discovery industries preferred.
Software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite required.
  • Client relationship management (CRM) experience required.
  • Microsoft Dynamics preferred.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced knowledge in developing, managing, and executing sales processes including business development planning, lead generation, event planning, pipeline management, account planning, and sales strategy.
  • Ability to develop relationships with C‑Suite executives and referral sources.
  • Capacity to influence, lead, marshal resources, and manage change in a matrix environment.
  • Strong business acumen to understand and communicate BDO’s business, marketplace, and value proposition.
  • Knowledge of contact management software, including updating, maintenance, and list generation.
  • Excellent project management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and facilitation skills.
  • Capacity to travel to assigned regional offices up to 50% of the year.
