MITRE is seeking a talented Junior Graphic Designer with a strong eye for design and a passion for creativity, to join the Communications and External Affairs (CXA) in-house creative team. As a junior designer and print specialist, you will be creating high-quality graphics for various projects, including digital, print, and signage, while also being responsible for operating a 60" plotter for large format printing.
You will gain hands-on experience with industry-standard design tools and printing equipment, contributing to high-profile projects in support of MITRE's strategic vision.
The ideal candidate will work directly with the creative lead and alongside senior graphic designers to bring the MITRE brand's creative vision to life. This person will build strong relationships with other internal CXA team members, as well as external stakeholders to advance the department's goals and mission.
This role requires exemplary design skills with a high taste level and the ability to develop fresh design ideas in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment. You are a detail-oriented visual problem solver who thrives in collaborative teamwork. You work effectively with cross-functional teams and can clearly articulate creative concepts to leadership, all while being a proactive self-starter with excellent time management skills.
You are familiar with emerging AI-assisted creative tools and have an interest in leveraging new technologies to enhance ideation, optimize workflow, and support the development of brand-compliant visual assets across print and digital channels.
The location for this position is in McLean, VA.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain large-format printing equipment, ensuring high-quality output through proper setup, print calibration, routine maintenance, and quality control. Training will be provided.
- Design creative assets under the guidance of the Creative Lead and senior graphic designers, applying brand standards across digital, print, environmental, and presentation materials.
- Prepare and produce print and digital assets for web and print distribution.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of brand guidelines, presentation templates, and visual identity materials.
- Support the Creative team with file organization, asset management, and archiving.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously while adapting to changing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Maintain and organize visual asset libraries, including stock and in-house photography.
- Contribute innovative design concepts and creative solutions while maintaining high visual and production standards.
- Strong portfolio demonstrating design skills, creative thinking, and visual storytelling.
- Work independently and proactively respond to evolving project needs and schedules.
- This position has an on-site requirement for 4 days a week on-site.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in graphic design.
- 1-2 years of relevant experience in a design role using Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
