Senior Director, Content Design – Consumer and Developer Experience

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director of Content Design to lead the content discipline for the Consumer and Developer Experience Design team. The role is responsible for defining the overarching content vision and strategy, architecting end‑to‑end experiences, and positioning content design as a core business lever. The director will partner with executive Product, Tech, and Design leadership to scale the maturity, infrastructure, and operational excellence of content design across the organization.

As a Senior Director you will lead a talented team of content designers and leaders, collaborate deeply with product design and research teams, and advocate for high‑leverage opportunities with executive stakeholders. Your work will set the bar for experience excellence and drive business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a community of designers, providing training, support, and strategic direction.
  • Elevate quality and maturity of the design practice through expertise in content design.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities that align customer needs with business goals.
  • Apply industry knowledge to predict shifts and shape design strategy.
  • Influence prioritization of technical advances to enable better outcomes and efficiency.
  • Integrate data, research, and design frameworks into presentations for executive stakeholders.
  • Communicate complex concepts in a clear, strategic manner to influence change.
  • Collaborate across functions to drive coherent experiences and accelerate delivery.
Basic Qualifications
  • At least 10 years of experience leading content design teams and delivering products to market.
  • At least 10 years of experience working with and contributing to an established design system.
  • At least 3 years of experience managing managers.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with a design toolkit that spans content design, product design, service design, and design strategy.
  • Deep experience shaping scope and opportunities in partnership with executive stakeholders and leading high‑impact, highly complex projects.
  • Deep experience partnering with product managers, engineers, marketing, and analytics leaders across multiple business lines.
  • Experience interfacing with executive leadership to solve problems, influence decisions, and drive results in strategy, design, and roadmaps.
  • Proficiency with web and mobile technologies and platforms, and navigating technology considerations.
  • Experience architecting AI‑assisted content workflows, intelligent taxonomy/metadata structures, or automated content generation engines.
  • Expertise with design and prototyping tools such as Figma.
  • Experience managing an interdisciplinary design team, guiding, mentoring, and inspiring growth.
  • Proficiency in business case development, tying product and UX decisions to business value.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal, and relationship‑building skills.
  • Exceptional people‑management and development skills.
Compensation
  • Chicago, IL: $245,100 – $279,800
  • McLean, VA: $269,600 – $307,700
  • New York, NY: $294,100 – $335,700
  • Richmond, VA: $245,100 – $279,800
  • Riverwoods, IL: $245,100 – $279,800

This role is also eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation, including cash bonuses and long‑term incentives.
