BASIS Independent McLean – Temporary Substitute Teacher
Temporary Substitute Teacher for multiple subject areas across elementary school classes. This position is a temporary role with an anticipated end date of October 2026.

PrimaryJob Responsibilities
As one of two teachers in the elementary classroom, Learning Expert Teachers (LETs) are responsible for one classroom of students—every day—and work with the Subject Expert Teacher to deliver lessons, engage students, and create an environment where students understand and retain knowledge. LETs use expertise in different pedagogical methods to provide individual or small group instruction and maintain standards of student behavior to achieve an optimal learning atmosphere.
OtherDuties
- Evaluating students’ academic and social growth, keeping appropriate records, and preparing progress reports.
- Communicating with parents via email, conferences, and other means to discuss students’ progress and reflect the BASIS Independent Schools culture.
- Identifying student needs and cooperating with Subject Experts or other professional staff members to help students solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
- Supervising students during classroom transitions throughout the day.
- Able to differentiate instruction.
- Create a positive classroom community and build relationships with students.
- Engage students in rigorous content and well‑planned, well‑paced lessons.
- Skilled in classroom management (high warm and high firm).
- Have excitement, joy, and passion for teaching kids and personal development/learning.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with kids, employees, and parents.
- Open to feedback and continuous growth.
- Creative in instructional and classroom management strategies.
- Cooperative, supportive, flexible.
- Well organized.
- Strong work ethic and do whatever it takes mind set.
A bachelor's or master's degree in early childhood or elementary education. Demonstrated success in student achievement, child development, and classroom management. Must obtain a fingerprint clearance card.
Preferred QualificationsMinimum of 2 years of classroom teaching experience. Strong communication skills and openness to new teaching methods.
