Part-Time Early Learning After‑School Teacher

This position involves teaching higher‑level content and supporting students’ academic growth within BASIS Independent McLean School’s after‑school program (2:00–6:00 PM).

• Teach higher‑level content than grade standard in an interactive learning environment to deliver exceptional results for all students.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of the subject taught.
• Instruct students in content‑specific knowledge and skills to heighten the trajectory of their academic and career success.
• Implement the BASIS Curriculum by designing effective and creative lessons and assessments, expressing passion for the subject and educating students at an internationally competitive level.
• Collaborate with other BASIS Curriculum Teachers to form a community of smart, talented, and interesting people who are passionate about their work and willing to work in a professional and academic environment.
• Guide student behavior to foster academic achievement, personal responsibility, intellect, and individuality in all students.
• Maintain positive energy, strong people skills, and organization, as required for the part‑time role.

Minimum Qualifications: A bachelor’s degree in the subject area. Candidates must have the ability to obtain a fingerprint clearance card.

Preferred Qualifications: Postgraduate work (master’s or Ph.D.) preferred. The successful applicant will demonstrate strong communication skills in teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence, a high GPA in their major, excellent recommendations, experience working with children (not necessarily in the classroom), and openness to new ideas in teaching.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform frequent walking, standing, sitting, squatting, stooping, reaching, kneeling, and other movements. The position often requires lifting, using repetitive or fine hand movements, and occasionally pushing or pulling. Clear vision and the ability to interpret and speak English are required.
