Adjunct violin teacher

Role Description The Adjunct Violin Teacher is a part-time, on-site role based at The Potomac School in McLean, VA. This educator will provide individual lessons after school as part of the school’s Auxiliary Programs, and occasional small-group instruction or chamber music coaching during school, focusing on technique, musicality, and performance skills appropriate to students’ ages and levels. Responsibilities include preparing lessons, teaching scheduled classes and lessons, assessing student progress, and offering regular feedback to learners and families.

The teacher will collaborate with music department colleagues to support ensemble participation, recitals, and school performances, and will contribute to a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Strong Music Performance and Violin skills, with the ability to model excellent musicianship.
• Training and experience in music pedagogy, with the ability to design age-appropriate lessons.
• Broad knowledge of Music repertoire suitable for varied skill levels and interests.
• Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, or a related field; advanced degree or equivalent professional experience preferred.
• Prior teaching experience with school-age violin students in individual or group settings.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.
