Kiewit Infrastructure Engineering has an immediate opening for a dynamic Senior or Principal Geotechnical/Tunneling Engineer (Rock Mechanics) in our growing Design Engineering Services (DES) Group. The Senior Geotechnical/Tunneling Engineer (Rock Mechanics) will work on an interdisciplinary team including: geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, civil engineers, estimators, schedulers and construction experts to perform engineering analysis, design, and estimates in support of design-build pursuits, construction engineering, and ongoing projects.
You will be part of our rapidly growing Infrastructure Design Department, which includes structural, geotechnical, civil, drainage, roadway, rail/transit and systems, and materials disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on the design-build delivery of infrastructure projects. LocationThis position is based of out of either our Lenexa, KS, Omaha, NE
or
our McLean, VA office with up to 25% of travel to projects and other office locations; other Kiewit major HUB office locations may be considered based on a candidate’s location, qualifications, and experience. Opportunities for hybrid work schedule is available.
Providing project support during proposal/bid, design, and construction phases, working to identify and evaluate innovative and cost efficient designs for rock and ground support. Projects will include but not be limited to underground shafts, tunnels, caverns, adits, portals, as well as rock slopes for roadways, dams, and other infrastructure projects.
Identify key geotechnical and geological risks and develop plans to mitigate these risks.
Serve as Geotechnical Engineer of Record for delegated construction phase designs and design-build projects, responsible for recommendations and deliverables for initial and final ground support systems, earth and rock loads, modeling potential failure mechanisms and deformations, and requirements for grouting and/or ground improvement.
Perform field work including inspections, rock mapping and characterization, assessment of ground classes for applicable support measures.
