Summary

Clark is seeking an experienced Civil Estimator, to be based in and out of our Bethesda headquarters, to help grow our backlog of projects in the Mid Atlantic market, using all types of delivery methods, but with an emphasis in Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR) projects. This position will include a variety of project types, including rail stations, rail and bus maintenance facilities, intermodal centers, air transportation centers, tunnels, and water and wastewater treatment plants.

This key member of our team will passionately help promote the development of creative, innovative solutions to construction challenges and enjoy the acquisition of winning profitable work.  With pre construction success, there will come opportunities to transition to field assignments to construct the won work.

Responsibilities

+ Maintain high standards of professionalism and ethical behavior when representing the company

+ Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects

+ Develop complete and accurate estimates for Divisions 3 (Concrete), 5 (Miscellaneous Metals), 6 (Rough Carpentry), 31 (Earthwork and Support of Excavation), 32 (Exterior Improvements) and 33 (Utilities) on a variety of project types

+ Perform portions of estimates for multi-discipline projects including scope determinations and accurate quantity surveys

+ Supervise and train other estimators in your areas of expertise

+ Solicit subcontractor and/or vendor quotes and evaluate them for scope and qualifications

+ Lead meetings with subcontractors to develop complete scopes and discuss strategy

+ Perform risk and contract management responsibilities as required on bids

+ Assist in developing a strategy to achieve minority participation requirements

+ Review total estimate to ensure accuracy and completeness prior to formal quotation

+ Monitor comparison of estimated costs to actual costs

+ Research and promote continuous improvement in developing more efficient estimating methods

+ Examine construction sites and observe unusual or challenging conditions

Basic Qualifications

+ Dedicated to winning work and taking pride and ownership of the final work product

+ 3 to many years of heavy civil estimating and cost control related experience (Concrete and Sitework estimating experience preferred)

+ Field experience is desirable

+ Estimating experience on public works projects in the Mid-Atlantic and California is desirable

+ Demonstrate the ability to either lead or be a part of a team for multiple projects and pursuits at any one given time

+ Undergraduate degree in engineering, construction management, or related degree

+ Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software

+ Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications

+ Working knowledge of computers and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel

+ Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to multitask

+ Must be detail oriented, technically sound and have good communication skills

The work environment and requirements described below are representative of those necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role.

** The Physical Side of the Role:
** This is an active, hands-on role. You can expect to be on your feet frequently, navigating active job sites with uneven terrain, stairs, ladders, and hoists. The work is physically demanding and requires a full range of motion, including bending, kneeling, and reaching. You'll need to be comfortable frequently lifting and carrying materials up to 25 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.

This role requires the ability to communicate effectively, as well as visual acuity for reading plans and inspecting work. The role does include desk time in the office that may require prolonged periods of sitting for tasks like computer work, document review, and meetings.

** Your Work Environment:
** You'll spend a significant amount of your time on active construction sites, which means being adaptable to all kinds of weather and moderate to loud noise levels, and comfortable in elevated or confined work areas with moving mechanical equipment and with the fast-paced nature of a project in progress. You will also spend time in a typical office setting with moderate noise levels.
