Fire Protection Engineer, Senior

Responsibilities- Provide technical and programmatic fire protection, life safety, and occupational safety and health support to Federal clients.
- Deliver engineering services to architects, developers, owners, and government clients.
- Review and analyze proposed fire protection and life safety equipment and design changes to determine code compliance.
- Serve as subject‑matter expert and representative of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in development of Statements of Work (SOWs) and design and construction proposals.
- Develop performance‑based design analyses utilizing fire protection engineering principles, code analyses, advice from AHJ, and other available resources.
- Provide engineering reviews of shop drawings, conduct construction oversight and inspection, field surveys, and systems acceptance testing for life safety systems.
- Participate in project meetings to provide progress oversight, coordinate prioritization of work related to construction, and recommend resolutions for issues encountered by construction trades.
- Evaluate existing building and life safety system conditions through code compliance, life safety, and fire hazards analysis surveys.
- Develop technical reports detailing fire prevention and protection issues, compliance findings, required code revisions, remedial work, and gaps in facility procedures and practices.
- Review deliverables of junior engineers and provide feedback, mentoring, and training.
- 10+ years of experience in fire protection engineering and a Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience in healthcare settings.
- Experience applying fire protection and life safety requirements to design reviews of facilities, systems, and equipment.
- Experience conducting on‑site audits and assessments for compliance and generating associated reports.
- Experience with FP/LS codes for healthcare facilities, including NFPA 99, The Joint Commission, UFC 3‑600‑01, and UFC 3‑601‑02.
- Experience with Federal government agencies such as EPA, VHA, DoD, and FAA.
- Comprehensive knowledge of major NFPA and FP/LS codes and standards (NFPA 101, 13, 25, 70, 72, 75, 90A).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability/Fitness determination.
- Master’s degree.
- Experience with OSH regulatory and consensus standards such as 29 CFR 1910, 1926, 1960, NFPA 70, 70E, and 101, and enterprise‑level OSH policies.
- Experience with fire suppression and detection systems design.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification.
- Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) certification.
