As a key member of the finance team, this position is responsible for developing and delivering financial statements and other reporting materials, including internal profit and loss reports, balance sheets, and ad hoc analyses. The role also supports evaluation of both historical financial performance and forward-looking projections.
This position oversees core accounting operations, including accounts payable and accounts receivable, and is accountable for general ledger maintenance, budgeting activities, and audit coordination. In addition, the Controller establishes and implements accounting practices and procedures, ensuring that appropriate internal controls are in place and that financial transactions are processed accurately and efficiently. The role plays a critical part in safeguarding organizational assets while providing timely, reliable, and meaningful financial information to support decision-making.
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations, ensuring accurate, timely financial reporting to support decision-making
- Develop and maintain accounting processes, internal controls, and compliance with regulatory requirements
- Oversee core accounting functions including billing, payables, general ledger, and reconciliations
- Ensure proper recording and classification of all financial transactions, including revenues, expenses, and journal entries
- Manage fixed assets, investments, and donor-related activity, including reconciliation and reporting
- Collaborate with HR on payroll and benefits accounting
- Support and develop finance staff through hiring, onboarding, and training
- Prepare budgets, monitor financial performance, and analyze variances
- Manage cash, banking relationships, and ensure compliance with debt obligations and reporting requirements
Lead the annual audit process and coordinate preparation of financial statements and tax filings (including Form 990) - Provide financial reporting and support to leadership and board-level discussions
- CPA
- 8+ years of nonprofit experience
- 5+ years of management experience
