Job DescriptionThe Database Engineer / SQL Specialist will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing SQL and PL/SQL-based data transformations to support accurate migration of legacy VES, EDB, and IVM data into the modernized Enrollment System. This role focuses on data mapping, reconciliation, validation, and performance optimization within Oracle-based environments. The candidate will work closely with data engineers, analysts, and modernization stakeholders to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and auditability throughout migration efforts.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance
- This position is remote but may require occasional onsite meetings in McLean, VA.
- You can be based out of the following states: AZ, DC, FL, GA, OH, ME, MD, SC, TX, UT, VA, NC, OK, WV.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a related field
- At least 3 years of relevant experience in data engineering, SQL development or a related role
- Strong proficiency in Oracle SQL and PL/SQL
- Experience developing stored procedures, functions, and packages
- Experience with indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and query optimization
- Experience with materialized views and partitioning
- Experience supporting ETL and ELT data transformations
- Experience implementing data validation, reconciliation, and data quality profiling routines
- Experience with schema and metadata management
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail and accuracy
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
- SQL and PL/SQL Development:
Design and implement complex SQL and PL/SQL transformations to support data migration and modernization initiatives. - Develop and maintain stored procedures, functions, and packages to support data processing and reconciliation workflows
- Design and execute ETL and ELT data transformation routines to migrate legacy VES, EDB, and IVM data into the modernized Enrollment System.
- Implement data mapping logic to ensure accurate field-level and semantic alignment between legacy and target schemas
- Develop and execute data validation and reconciliation routines to verify completeness, accuracy, and consistency of migrated data.
- Identify, analyze, and resolve data discrepancies and anomalies
- Optimize SQL queries using indexing strategies, execution plan analysis, and query tuning techniques.
- Design and maintain materialized views and partitioning strategies to support performance and scalability.
- Maintain and enhance database schemas, metadata definitions, and data dictionaries.
- Support versioned schema changes and metadata traceability throughout migration cycles.
- Collaborate with data engineers, system integrators, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and migration constraints.
- Support integration and testing activities by providing subject-matter expertise on data structures and transformations.
- Ensure data handling and migration activities comply with applicable data governance, security, and audit requirements.
- Support implementation of data quality profiling and monitoring practices.
- Create and maintain documentation for data mappings, transformation logic, reconciliation procedures, and database designs.
- Follow best practices for SQL development, version control, testing, and code quality.
