Transportation Data Scientist

Overview

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Transportation Data Scientist to join a high‑impact team applying AI/ML to transform safety, freight, and mobility outcomes. This role is located in McLean, VA and requires 100% full onsite presence. The Transportation Data Engineer will design, build, and evaluate AI/ML models using multimodal transportation data to advance mobility and transportation safety.

• Design, develop & deploy AI/ML models for transportation use cases
• Build & integrate multi‑source datasets addressing data quality issues
• Evaluate model performance & robustness and provide recommendations to improve scalability, reliability & trustworthiness
• Engage stakeholders via workshops/briefings, translate needs into roadmaps, proposals, and implementation strategies
• Collaborate cross‑functionally to align with federal objectives, contribute to technical reports, monthly progress, risk mitigation, and iterative model refinement

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, Data Science, AI, EE, Transportation Engineering, or a related field (Master’s preferred)
• 5+ years of professional data science/ML experience
• Hands‑on experience with Tensor Flow, PyTorch, scikit‑learn, Pandas, Num Py, and applied AI techniques
• Proven ETL/data integration with multimodal data, experience managing data quality in production‑style workflows
• Strong model evaluation skills & testing under variable data conditions
• Active Public Trust clearance

• Salary: $95,000‑$130,000 (depending on experience)
