McLean, VA (5 day onsite)
Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Business Analyst to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for understanding business requirements, translating them into well-defined user stories and acceptance criteria in Gherkin format within JIRA, performing data analysis using SQL, creating data flow diagrams, and supporting UAT and testing activities. Experience in the Secondary Mortgage domain is a plus.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand, analyze, and clarify business requirements.
- Translate business requirements into clear and actionable user stories in JIRA.
- Write detailed acceptance criteria in Gherkin format based on the understood requirements.
- Partner with business users, developers, QA teams, and other stakeholders to ensure stories and acceptance criteria are well understood and implemented correctly.
- Perform data analysis using SQL to validate business rules, investigate issues, and support decision-making.
- Develop data flow diagrams and process flows to represent system interactions and data movement.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) by preparing test scenarios, coordinating with business users, tracking defects, and validating fixes.
- Participate in testing activities and ensure delivered solutions align with business expectations and defined acceptance criteria.
- Assist in identifying process improvement opportunities and recommend practical solutions.
- Maintain clarity, consistency, and traceability across requirements, stories, and testing outcomes.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Business Analyst or in a similar role.
- Strong experience in business requirement gathering and analysis.
- Hands-on experience creating user stories and writing acceptance criteria in Gherkin format in JIRA.
- Hands-on experience with SQL for data analysis and validation.
- Experience creating data flow diagrams, process maps, or similar analysis artifacts.
- Good understanding of UAT, testing processes, defect tracking, and validation.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in the Secondary Mortgage domain.
- Familiarity with Agile, Scrum, or Waterfall delivery environments.
- Exposure to tools such as JIRA, Confluence, Visio, Excel, or similar tools.
