Overview
At Appian, we support our federal customers’ missions by delivering cloud‑based solution technology. Our Customer Success organization partners with federal agencies to advise and support them on how to architect and deliver Appian‑based solutions. As a Solution Architect for the Department of War, you will lead technical architecture and design to drive DoW modernization priorities.
Responsibilities- Advise customers on technical design, architecture and implementation of Appian solutions on private cloud or on‑premise hosting, and integration with government cloud offerings.
- Support the sales cycle by creating high‑value, differentiated solutions and delivery roadmaps that integrate program and project management disciplines.
- Present and vet integrated solutions and complex technical concepts to customers and other audiences.
- Support customers in configuration, testing, deployment and operations of Appian applications following agile delivery methodologies and Appian best practices.
- Drive technical success and efficiency, including advising development practice, program management and governance, and delivery automation.
- Lead the definition and development of Appian Customer Success innovations and offerings.
- Collect and review technical challenges with a team of architects, derive best practices and common solutions.
- Support the creation of whitepapers, pre‑sales solutioning and proposals.
- Advise DoW customers on positioning Appian as an agility layer integrating mission and business processes across existing systems of record.
- Design Appian‑based solution architectures for DoW modernization initiatives that connect operational workflows, case management, process automation and data orchestration.
- Demonstrate experience supporting or solutioning within DoW ecosystems and related mission systems.
- Apply familiarity with DoW enterprise systems and modernization programs (e.g., ECMA, GCSS, GFEBS, LMP, ACWS).
- Work with DoW stakeholders to shape architectures respecting hosting, cybersecurity, RMF/ATO, data access, integration and interoperability constraints.
- Support DoW‑focused capture, proposal, white paper and customer advisory efforts by translating Appian capabilities into mission‑relevant solutions.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of advising customers on design and implementation of government cloud computing platforms; 10 years of multi‑tier application design and architecture.
- Experience architecting secure cloud hosting solutions for federal customers using AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Leadership experience designing, architecting or delivering enterprise‑level cloud environments (e.g., C2S, JWICS, Gov Cloud).
- Experience authoring federal proposals and whitepapers.
- In‑depth experience managing federal programs and projects, leading IT delivery with agile frameworks (Scrum, SAFe).
- Experience accelerating IT solutions under the federal government’s Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- Experience designing and implementing Dev Sec Ops pipelines and infrastructure automation frameworks (e.g., Jenkins, Puppet, Ansible, Salt Stack, Cucumber, JMeter, Fitnesse).
- Willingness to travel 10–15% including SCIFs.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Guiding client enterprise architecture teams during scalable solution design and implementation.
- Excellent problem‑solving and creative solution identification.
- Ability to identify and lead creation of market offerings and corporate capabilities.
- AWS, Google, or Azure certifications (plus).
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification (preferred).
- Certified Scrum Master or other agile certifications (required).
Possession of or ability to obtain a US government public trust and/or DoD clearance. TS/SCI with CI Poly is strongly preferred.
Compensation & Benefits- Base salary range: $150,000 – $275,000 USD.
