Job Summary
The Director, Tax Operations (“Director”) is responsible for overseeing, managing, innovating, introducing, and progressing the operations and development of the Geography’s Tax Practice, both as a whole and for the professionals within the Practice. The role requires managing duties in a real‑time environment, monitoring and assessing continuously to maximize effectiveness and efficiency of all geography’s resources and practices.
Job Duties- Aids Managing Partner (MP) with long‑term and day‑to‑day operations of the Geography
- Assists the MP (and Market Managing Partners) with formal and informal succession planning to ensure smooth transitions of roles within the geography and local departments with limited to no disruption to operations or client service, promoting career advancement.
- Serves as a designee by the MP to review and assess any issues that arise in an office to provide the MP with pertinent facts for informed decision‑making.
- Builds relationships and trust with MMPs and their office leaders.
- Works as liaison with FP&A management teams, as needed
- Act as liaison between FP&A and local offices on initiatives and training, identifying additional local office training needs.
- Assists with continuation and completion of project close processes, leveraging knowledge and relationships with local office personnel to follow up on timely project close and renewal processes.
- Assists as a resource to local offices for implementation of Billing Playbook and strategies to help decrease DSO.
- Assists in the budget process for the Geography’s financial statements and analyzes monthly, quarterly, year‑to‑date operating results
- Prepares brief write‑ups (Quasi‑MD&A) and analysis comparing monthly, quarterly, YTD results to budget and prior year, noting significant fluctuations and investigating unusual matters.
- Develops benchmarks and analyses for offices to assess client portfolios.
- Supports the implementation of standardized processes and methodology across the geography
- Stays current on national firm standards, processes, and initiatives.
- Evaluates current processes and state of implementation of national firm standards within each office.
- Implements a plan for each office to adopt firm standards, identifies training needs, and coordinates training sessions with National Tax.
- Follows up on consistency of process implementation and informs MMPs of status.
- Coordinates with the Total Tax Transformation Leader for each office to ensure standardization and accountability throughout the geography; assists MMPs with leader selection, works with selected leaders on goals, and identifies support needed to attain goals.
- Coordinates and monitors the general development needs for Geography’s offices.
- Supports the Resource Management strategy by providing MP with top‑level analysis of productivity by office.
- Advises and supports the integration team regarding expansion offices in the geography.
- Works with P&C and local management teams to identify best practices and policies related to employee satisfaction.
- Oversees operational managers, senior associates, and associates as assigned.
- Acts as a career advisor as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, OR high school diploma/GED with eight (8) or more years of experience at a large public accounting firm.
- Bachelor’s degree, focus in Accounting, or Finance, required; OR high school diploma/GED and eight years of experience at a large public accounting firm, required.
- Experience in project management, including developing and managing project timelines, prioritizing, assigning projects, and assessing progress, required.
- Six or more years of experience at a large public accounting firm, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, preferred.
- Experience in a professional services firm, specifically public accounting, preferred.
- CPA, preferred.
- PMP, preferred.
- Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, required.
