About the Montessori School of Mc Lean

The Montessori School of McLean (MSM) is a fully accredited independent, nonprofit Montessori school serving children from Toddler through Upper Elementary, ages 2-12. We are committed to fostering curiosity, independence, creativity, and a strong sense of community. We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable person to join our team, supporting the "storytelling" of our school.

Position Summary

Working closely with the Administration and Advancement team, the Communications and Marketing Manager will help develop and create a communications and marketing strategy that supports telling our story, advancing the mission and priorities of the Montessori School of McLean.

The role requires the creation, coordination, and distribution of school communications across digital, print, and in-person channels. This position will ensure that messaging is clear, consistent, timely, and aligned with the school’s voice and identity.

The Communications and Marketing Manager will play a central role in telling the MSM story, strengthening community engagement, supporting enrollment and advancement initiatives, promoting school programs and events, and ensuring that families and other stakeholders remain informed and connected. The successful candidate will combine strong strategic thinking with hands-on writing, editing, design, project management, and content creation skills.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Serve as the lead internal administrator of the school CRM system.
  • Write and edit content for the school's weekly newsletter and other publications.
  • Assist with communications to parents, faculty, staff, alumni, donors, and community members.
  • Create promotional materials for school events and community initiatives.
  • Design digital and print communications using Canva and other design tools.
  • Help maintain consistent branding and messaging across school communications.
  • Lead new website project and continued maintenance and site support.
  • Capture photographs and create visual content for newsletters, publications, and social media (when appropriate).
  • Reliably see projects through to completion.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in communications, marketing, or education preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in communications, operations, or program management, ideally in an independent school or nonprofit setting.
  • Proficiency in communications systems and CRM platforms; comfort learning new technologies.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills, with an eye for detail and tone.
  • Website management and development.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, flexibility, and initiative in a fast-paced, small school environment.
  • Creative, organized, and detail oriented.
  • Comfortable managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
  • Friendly, professional, and able to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences.
  • Able to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Familiarity and/or interest in Montessori education preferred.
Preferred Skills

Experience with some or all of the following is helpful:

  • Canva
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Google Workspace
  • Writing for newsletters, websites, or blogs
  • CRM platforms
  • Social media content creation
  • Photography and basic photo editing
  • Graphic design principles
  • Copywriting and storytelling
  • Basic website content management
  • Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) is a plus, but not required
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills

Work Expectations
  • Full-Time 12-Month Position | 40 Hours per week in person
  • Occasional early mornings, evenings, and weekend work required based on school events or system deadlines.

  • Salary commensurate with experience
