Gain hands-on experience in public information and community education by shadowing
our Public Affairs Coordinator. This opportunity offers a behind-the-scenes look at the role of a Public Information Officer (PIO) and the strategies involved in public health communication.
- Observe public health communication in action by attending a McLean County PIO meeting, viewing emergency response coordination, and participating in media preparation and interviews
- Learn the differences between proactive and reactive communication, while gaining insight into how media professionals in radio, print, and TV operate
- Receive feedback on Associated Press (AP) writing style and build both oral and written communication skills
Please submit a sample of original writing in the form of a press release or media post (social media, newspaper article, etc.) on a public health topic/story of your choice.
