Geographer​/Biologist​/Physical Scientist​/Cartographer; Seasonal

Overview

The incumbent is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS) for one or more parks.

The major duties of the position Geographer/Biologist/Physical Scientist/Cartographer include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Ability to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
• Use GIS and other electronic tools to conduct analysis of geo-referenced data
• Provide advice and support to organization and regional leadership

• Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
• Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
• Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
• You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
• You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS: If you do not meet these basic requirements, you will be considered not qualified and will not receive consideration for this position.

• Geographer 0150
• Degree: geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
• OR
• Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

• Biologist 0401
• Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
• OR
• Combination of education and experience:
  Courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related field that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

• Physical Scientist 1301
• Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.
• OR
• Combination of education and experience: education equivalent to one of the majors shown above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

• Cartographer 1370
• Degree: cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics.
• OR
• Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE (GS-11): At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include all of the following activities:

• Development, management, coordination, and implementation of the Geographic Information System (GIS);
• Applying knowledge of applicable of biological and physical resources, digital cartography, and geography to the development, analysis, and use of geographic and relational databases that are pertinent to park resources and themes.
