Overview
Dean Fluor is looking for an Electrical Maintenance Technician. The role involves installation, maintenance, testing, calibration, and commissioning of electrical systems and components, working on low, medium, and high‑voltage systems to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and within manufacturers’ recommendations.
Responsibilities- Installation, maintenance, testing, calibration and commissioning of electrical systems and components.
- Act as "Employee in Charge" on some jobs, ensuring that jobs are efficiently planned and safely completed.
- Perform other assignments as required. Some supervision required.
- Read and interpret one‑line drawings, schematic drawings and other service documents, including manufacturer’s instructions and manuals.
- Responsible for maintaining personal support equipment, PPE, hand tools and test equipment.
- Responsible for personal safety and the safety of others in your assigned work area by ensuring understanding and compliance with safety policies, practices and procedures.
- Ability to identify and wear appropriate PPE as required by the task being performed.
- Ability to understand and adhere to strict Standard Operating Procedures and Switching Plans.
- Requires troubleshooting capabilities, including the use of digital multimeters, clamp‑on ammeters, power‑quality meters, infrared scanners, and circuit tracers.
- Simple protective relay calibration and commissioning.
- Perform point‑to‑point verification of control wiring.
- Perform equipment switching, isolation, LOTO, zero‑volt check and grounding.
- Perform maintenance, tests and inspections on: high‑voltage SF6 circuit breakers, medium‑voltage vacuum circuit breakers, low‑voltage power circuit breakers, switchboards, panel boards, ground systems, motor starters, variable‑frequency drives, low and medium‑voltage cables, low, medium and high‑voltage switches, ground‑fault systems, isolation transformers, two‑winding transformers, power transformers, instrument transformers, automatic transfer switches, static transfer switches, sectionalized switches, batteries, and all equipment associated with low and medium‑voltage substation and switch gear systems.
- Working knowledge of NETA MTS testing specifications.
- Accurately record field data for all tests and inspections utilizing Power DB and Maximo.
- Assist with start‑up services on switch gear and electrical systems up through 138 kV.
- Conduct safety meetings as required.
- Ensure compliance with Dean Fluor environmental and safety policies.
- Maintain strong team and client relationships.
- High school diploma or GED coupled with a minimum of 10 years of progressive and hands‑on experience in an environment of similar proportions and mission as the assigned area of responsibility.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to efficiently schedule and execute work in a dynamic environment with large numbers of equipment.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex technical instructions, plans, blueprints, and schematic diagrams.
- Strong working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NETA maintenance practices, maintenance and supply procedures, and quality control procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex electrical systems, perform damage assessments, estimate maintenance, parts, and manpower requirements, diagnose malfunctions, and employ testing and inspection techniques.
- A minimum of five years’ experience in facilities maintenance with thorough understanding of electrical systems, controls, generators, and life‑safety systems, including five years related experience in data center or complex mission‑critical environments.
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and on ladders, and to lift equipment over six feet above ground.
- Must conform to all city, state and federal licensing and certification requirements.
- Possess an active license (determined by the location of services).
- Lifting and physical exertion required.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
- Must be capable of achieving and maintaining security clearance.
- Physical Requirements:
- Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time.
- Relocates a 12‑foot stepladder without assistance.
- Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders.
- Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.
- Possesses good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.
- May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.
