LocationOverseas Project Location - Doha, Qatar
Basic EligibilityElectricians must possess an active SECRET clearance, a valid passport, and the ability to obtain appropriate work visas and other required documentation. It is preferred that individuals have experience working on previous OBO projects overseas.
Responsibilities- Must be able to read and understand blueprints
- Must have a basic understanding of the NEC (National Electrical Code)
- Transfer any required materials from the SSA yard to the work area either by escorting local personnel or physically doing it yourself
- Install all infrastructures (conduit and boxes) that are under the electrical division in either EMT or Rigid conduit from sizes ¾” to 4”
- Bending EMT and Rigid conduit either with a manual, electric or hydraulic bender
- Install small/large transformers
- Install small/large electrical panels
- Install other large electrical equipment required
- Install telecom infrastructures in the TR rooms and throughout the area(s)
- Pull cable/wire for feeders, branch circuits, telecom, fire alarm, TSS, etc.
- Terminate panels in accordance with the NEC
- Check the rotation of all three phase equipment to ensure proper rotation
- In extreme cases, might have to deal with “live” electrical parts or equipment
- Install light fixtures either normal, emergency or egress
- Install devices (switches, duplex receptacles, single receptacles, etc.)
- Install conduit pathways (trapeze)
- Install 4000 and 6000 series raceway
- Assist other trades if required
- 2+ years’ construction industry experience preferred
- Basic understanding of construction principles and procedures
- High school diploma/GED preferred
- General knowledge of the use of hand tools to cut and shape materials as per instruction
- General knowledge of operating construction equipment and vehicles
- Flexibility in working overseas
- Understanding and adherence to local laws and customs in host country
- Following all Government site security requirements to maintain eligibility to work on project site
- Ability to take direction and work well with others, including meeting attendance requirements necessary to keep job on schedule and adherence to safety protocols
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to grasp and reach with arms overhead, including manual dexterity to operate equipment, cut, pull wiring, and perform specialized skills. The employee must have the ability to regularly and for extended periods of time stoop, squat, stand, walk, twist, balance, climb ladders and stairs, kneel, crouch, speak, carry, and hear.
The employee must have the ability to regularly lift, carry, push or pull and move objects weighing up to approximately 50 pounds without assistance, and occasionally more. The job imposes a substantial demand for physical agility and mobility, including the ability to maneuver safely throughout the work site. This position will require the use of personal protective equipment during various tasks and activities.
The employee must be able to hear warning sounds and alarms, communicate effectively with coworkers and follow spoken directions. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The position requires a high degree of concentration in a busy environment. There is a substantial demand for analyzing, perceiving, comprehending, rapid decision making, and exercising sound judgment to ensure individual and coworker safety in a potentially dangerous environment. Ability to follow directions and meet deadlines is critical.
The position entails working on a busy construction site overseas, generally away from the employee’s family, and in countries whose laws and social norms may be more restrictive than in the United States, with potential for occasional periods of social unrest, military action, interruption of normal services such as electricity and water, natural disasters, and the like. Work involves a 60‑hour workweek, 6 days a week / 10 hours per day.
Flexibility with hours/days is required. Individuals must have comfort working in a high‑stress environment and be able to perform the above activities in extreme hot, cold, humid, and wet conditions depending on location and season. Frequent exposure and use of construction equipment and sharp tools, including power tools, and materials. May involve frequent repetitive motions. Some exposure to toxic/caustic chemicals, potential electric shock, significant heights and high noise level, including high‑pitched noises.
Some potential exposure to dust, fumes, smoke and airborne particles.
