Superintendent

The Communications Superintendent demonstrates competency in job planning and management, with a strong ability to meet deadlines and execute work safely. Attention to detail is critical to success in this job as is the ability to communicate, both up and down the chain of command.

Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple subcontractors, work crews, and project personnel.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly reports accurately.
  • Coordinate construction work in accordance with contractual requirements, phasing plans, and owner needs.
  • Provide look‑ahead schedules and arrange critical telecommunications outages necessary to complete the work and re‑forecast tasks as site conditions change.
  • Responsible for all aspects of construction: safety, quality, schedule, and client satisfaction.
  • Hands‑on position, focus on results, and willingness to solve problems that arise in the field.
  • Run day‑to‑day operations with crews of 5‑30 technicians for a project/program or sub‑section of a project/program.
  • Oversee daily safety meetings and perform job site safety inspections.
  • Determine labor requirements and dispatch workers to construction sites.
  • Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to administrative staff, workers, and clients.
  • Interface with engineering team to ensure design efficiency.
  • Coordinate with field personnel or engineering team to discuss potential installation issues.
  • Interface with internal and external customers.
  • Plan material location and storage to enhance project productivity.
  • Plan equipment and material needs to ensure on‑time delivery.
  • Suggest process improvements and cost‑saving measures.
  • Assist technicians with installation work as needed.
  • Maintain organized and detailed project records (Daily Work Tickets, etc.).
  • Provide Project Manager with weekly project status and schedule updates.
  • Interface with customers to address project status and/or customer concerns.
  • Utilize project tracking tools to track progress, document issues and conditions daily.
  • Maintain as‑built documents as work is completed.
  • Build project schedule to develop specific goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish installation plan.
  • Understand and manage project cost as it relates to the budget.
  • Plan and execute project delivery including kick‑off, procurement, pre‑testing, pre‑fabrication, installation, commissioning, punch list, and close‑out.
  • Responsible for continuous quality control to ensure compliance with industry and company standards, project plans, drawings, specifications, and Owner requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, design artifacts, and project specifications.
  • Identify changes to scope of work (SOW), assist project team with pricing, and implement approved changes on project.
  • Validate project estimate post award for constructability, manpower requirements, material budgets and equipment requirements.
  • Confer with senior management, supervisory personnel, owners, contractors, and design professionals to discuss and resolve matters such as work procedures, complaints, and project issues.
  • Assist project team with acquiring permits, badge/access requests, scheduling inspections, and ensure installation complies with local codes and standards.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience with a bachelor's degree (Engineering Technology, Construction Management) and 5+ years of installation experience in IT, Cable, Electrical, RF and/or Telecommunications fields.
  • OR High school diploma / GED with 10+ years of installation experience in IT, Cable, Electrical, RF and/or Telecommunications fields.
