Overview

Director, Software Engineering (Network Platform Development) – As a Capital One Director of Software Engineering, you will work on customer‑facing web and mobile applications, highly available RESTful microservices, back‑end Java systems, and machine‑learning models using Big Data techniques. You will bring solid experience in technologies such as node.js, Java, Go, AngularJS, React, Python, REST, JSON, XML, Ruby, Perl, No

SQL and relational databases, Spark, Artifactory, Maven, iOS, Android, and AWS/cloud infrastructure.

The role focuses on driving network design and transformation toward a proactive, intent‑based architecture built on Infrastructure‑as‑Code principles. You will accelerate automation, AI integration, and engineering discipline while building and scaling a specialized team that automates complex technology landscapes, standardizes configurations, and consolidates vendor functions.

• Lead, manage and grow multiple product‑focused software engineering teams.
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers.
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios.
• Continuously improve software engineering practices.
• Collaborate across Agile teams to select, design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across full‑stack tools and technologies.
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions.
• Stay current on technology trends, experiment with new technologies, and participate in internal and external technology communities.
• Encourage innovation, cutting‑edge technology implementation, inclusion, outside‑of‑the‑box thinking, teamwork, self‑organization, and diversity.
• Improve the velocity of your and other teams’ delivery.
• Lead efforts to deploy applications into AWS environments.
• Break monolithic applications into micro‑service architectures and build new microservices.

• Bachelor’s degree.
• At least 7 years of experience in software development.
• At least 7 years of experience in network engineering and architecture.
• At least 7 years of experience in advanced networking concepts in routing, switching, and Wi‑Fi.
• At least 5 years of experience in people management.

• Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience in software development.
• 10+ years of experience in advanced networking concepts in routing, switching, and Wi‑Fi.
• 8+ years of experience in cloud and software‑defined networking.
• 5+ years of experience in Agile practices.

Salary ranges by location:

• McLean, VA: $269,100 – $307,200
• Plano, TX: $244,700 – $279,200
• Richmond, VA: $244,700 – $279,200

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location. Compensation is offered in base salary and may include performance‑based incentive compensation (cash bonus and/or long‑term incentives).
