Director, Software Engineer

Overview

Director of Software Engineering at Capital One. You ll work on a range of systems from customer-facing web and mobile applications to RESTful microservices, back-end Java systems, and machine learning models using big data techniques. You ll bring experience with technologies such as Node.js, Java, Go, AngularJS, React, Python, REST, JSON, XML, Ruby, Perl, No

SQL and relational databases, Spark, Artifactory, Maven, iOS, Android, and AWS/Cloud Infrastructure.

• Lead, manage and grow multiple teams of product-focused software engineers
• Mentor and guide the professional and technical development of engineers on your team
• Work with product managers to understand desired application capabilities and testing scenarios
• Continuously improve software engineering practices
• Collaborate within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement, and support technical solutions across full-stack tools and technologies
• Lead the craftsmanship, availability, resilience, and scalability of your solutions
• Stay on top of tech trends, experiment with new technologies, participate in technology communities, and mentor other engineers
• Encourage innovation, inclusion, outside-the-box thinking, teamwork, self-organization, and diversity
• Improve velocity across your team and others
• Lead efforts to deploy applications into AWS environments
• Break monolithic applications into microservice architectures and build new microservices

• Bachelor s Degree
• At least 7 years of software development experience
• At least 5 years of people management experience

• Master s Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
• 10+ years of software development experience
• 5+ years of Agile practices

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries apply to candidates hired to perform work within the listed locations and reflect the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based on hours worked.

McLean, VA: $269,100 - $307,200 for Director, Software Engineering;
New York, NY: $293,600 - $335,100;
Richmond, VA: $244,700 - $279,200. Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range for that location, with the actual offer reflected in the offer letter.

This role is eligible for performance-based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives (LTI). Incentives may be discretionary depending on the plan.
