Lead Software Engineer, Back End, Java, AWS (Risk Tech – Intelligent Foundations & Experiences)

Capital One invites candidates to lead a portfolio of diverse technology projects and a team of developers in building distributed microservices and full‑stack systems that support regulatory needs.

• Lead a team of developers and oversee the design, implementation, and delivery of cloud‑based solutions.
• Architect and develop microservices in Java, Scala, Python, Go or Node.js, leveraging REST/GraphQL APIs and event‑driven patterns.
• Collaborate with digital product managers and stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable, maintainable architectures.
• Manage and mentor team members, fostering a culture of code quality, continuous learning, and collaborative problem solving.
• Participate in internal and external technology communities, staying current with emerging trends and evaluating new tools that accelerate productivity.
• Evaluate and review code to maintain high quality and consistent standards across the organization.

• Basic: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 4 years of professional software engineering experience (internships not counted).
• At least 1 year of experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Preferred: Master’s Degree.
• 7+ years of experience in Java, Scala, Python, Go, or Node.js.
• 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or other cloud services.
• 4+ years of experience with open source frameworks.
• 1+ year of people‑management experience.
• 2+ years of experience in Agile practices.
• Experience leveraging interactive AI tools to accelerate development productivity.

Salary ranges (subject to change as company policy updates):

• McLean, VA: $197,300 – $225,100
• Richmond, VA: $179,400 – $204,700

The role may also be eligible for performance‑based incentive compensation.
