Position: Math and AVID Teacher - Patton Middle School (Temporary for 2026-2027 SY)

Middle School Classroom Teacher

To develop student skills and comprehension of subject area; to promote the development of character, leadership, cooperation and respect for others that will make the student a better citizen.

Teaches the skills, knowledge and processes of the subject area. Maintains the confidentiality of student communications and keeps records as required by law, policy and regulations. Creates a positive, safe and stimulating learning environment and maintains control of the classroom, supervisor areas, and assemblages of students. Possesses the ability to be a team player, who is flexible and has high expectations of student performance and behavior.

Determines in cooperation with the department head, course of study and principal, the type of course to be taught. Assumes responsibility for accompanying all assigned students on field trips or other off-campus visits. Submits attendance reports to the secretary at the beginning of each period. Reports and records any injury immediately. Assumes responsibility for the condition of the classroom. Submits an inventory of furniture, teaching materials, and books at the end of each year.

Properly completes and submits to the secretary all forms pertaining to grades, absences, competencies, class loads, etc. Knows and understands all policies, regulations and procedures of the school and district. Follows proper procedure when purchasing school items. Responsible for being familiar with the school/district policies and procedures which govern the work. Prompt and regular attendance is required.

Performs other tasks as assigned. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities. Participates in various meetings and professional development activities for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving one's skills/knowledge.

Job Requirements - Qualifications

Valid Oregon Teaching License with appropriate endorsement(s) required. Valid Oregon Driver's License. Experience in and flexibility with a variety of instructional strategies, diagnosis, and performance-based assessment. Knowledge about middle level characteristics and developmental practices. Flexibility and resourcefulness in behavior management. Bilingual Spanish/English skills desirable. Ability to work cooperatively and harmoniously as a team member. Ability to plan, organize, and work without close supervision.

Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District personnel and the public. Maintains confidential information and the privacy of District staff, students, and families. Carries out work responsibilities effectively under pressure of deadlines, interruptions, and new or emergency situations. Ability to work with a diverse population. Ability to respect confidential information. Basic computer skills to include use of word processing programs, database programs, knowledge of the Internet and use of a modem.

The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; and use hands for fine manipulation, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to stand and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and peripheral vision. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to blood borne pathogens. The noise level in the work environment varies but is usually moderate.
