JOB GOALSTo help establish and maintain a calm and pleasant atmosphere in the cafeteria so that students may find mealtime a time to relax after the tasks of the morning and to refresh themselves for the tasks of the afternoon.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS- Organizes students into orderly lines for purchasing food, and sees they go to assigned tables.
- Helps students develop and observe proper dining habits, both in term of etiquette and nutrition.
- Assists younger students with the use of utensils when needed.
- Organizes students for orderly disposal of food waste, trays, and utensils.
- Organizes groups for orderly dismissal from the cafeteria.
- Circulates among the tables during the meal period so as to be available to help children who need help and to resolve any minor problems which may arise.
- Informs any attending teacher at once of any serious infraction of disciplinary rules by students.
- Calls immediately for an attending teacher in the event of any argument involving more than two students, any incident involving physical confrontation, and any incident that appears to be of more than momentary disruption.
This job may require lifting of objects that exceed 40 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighting up to 20 pounds. Other physical demands that may be required are as follows:
- Picking up of lunch trays.
- Adaptability to performing a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature without loss of efficiency or composure.
- Adaptability to dealing with people.
- Adaptability to making generalizations, evaluations, or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria.
Specific capacities and abilities may be required of an individual in order to learn to perform adequately a task or job duty.
- Ability to supervise students.
May experience some discomfort due to exposure to noise, temperature and standing for periods of time on inadequate floor material.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENTTen-month year. Salary and work year to be established by Board.
EVALUATIONPerformance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
