McPherson College is seeking an enthusiastic, student-centered Assistant Professor of Exercise Science to join its Health & Sport Studies Department. This is a full-time, tenure-track, benefits-eligible position with an anticipated start date of January or August 2027.

The role combines two core responsibilities: teaching 21 credit hours per academic year within the Exercise Science major (while leading the department's CSCS exam preparation program), and providing strength and conditioning oversight for select McPherson College athletic teams. Primary teaching responsibilities include courses in Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, Personal & Group Exercise Training, and Fitness Assessment & Prescription. The successful candidate will also maintain regular office hours, advise Exercise Science majors, support undergraduate research and applied learning opportunities, assist with student recruiting, and contribute to departmental and college governance.

Faculty will work in newly renovated lab and classroom spaces (a recent $700,000+ investment) featuring modern physiology, human performance, and strength & conditioning equipment.

  • A terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Strength and Conditioning, or a closely related field is recommended; however, applicants with a master's degree in these fields are encouraged to apply, as a master's is the minimum requirement for this position
  • Experience in collegiate or high school strength and conditioning
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching and student mentorship
  • Ability to teach across the Exercise Science curriculum (e.g., Strength and Conditioning, Biomechanics, Personal & Group Exercise Training, Fitness Assessment & Prescription)
  • Willingness to advise students, support recruiting efforts, and participate in departmental/college governance
