Pharmacists fill orders for medications, monitor patient medication therapy, and provide drug information. Pharmacists supervise and direct support personnel. The pharmacist interacts with patients, family, and other healthcare providers as appropriate to assure continuity of services and to achieve desired patient outcomes through safe, timely, cost‑effective medication therapy. In the absence of the director of pharmacy, the pharmacist may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the director of pharmacy.
PharmacistShift Availability:
- PRN (as needed)
- Monitors medication therapy regimens for contraindications, drug‑drug interactions, drug‑food interactions, drug‑laboratory test interactions, allergies, appropriateness of drug and dose, and therapeutic duplications.
- Provides accurate, adequate, and timely drug information to the professional staff and patients.
- Interprets medication orders (verbal and written) and transcribes to computerized patient medication profiles accurately. Maintains accurate, complete patient medication profiles.
- Prepares and dispenses medications, including sterile preparations, extemporaneous compounds, parenteral nutrition preparations, and possibly chemotherapy safely and accurately using appropriate techniques.
- Supervises and directs pharmacy support personnel. Verifies the daily activities of pharmacy technicians.
- Prepares and dispenses intravenous admixture solutions, as required, using aseptic technique in an accepted sterile product preparation area. Must maintain appropriate training and monitoring per current policy.
- Organizes daily operational duties and assists in the supervision of pharmacy technicians, pharmacy aides, students, interns, and other ancillary personnel involved in providing pharmaceutical care.
- Sustains the formulary by minimizing non‑formulary procurements, utilizing therapeutic substitution protocols, and promoting rational medication therapy selections.
- Documents all clinical activities and interventions accurately and completely.
- Participates in the development and presentation of orientation, education, and training programs to the pharmacy personnel, students, medical, nursing, and other staffs.
- Expected to rotate into departmental call schedule to support after‑hours questions or the need to come onsite for emergency dispensing of medications. The call schedule includes 24‑hour support over nights, weekends, and holidays to encompass all hours and days through the entire year.

Qualifications:
Education:
- Graduate of an ACPE‑accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy degree or Doctorate of Pharmacy degree.
- One to two years of health‑system experience preferred, but not required.
- Currently licensed to practice pharmacy in the state of Kansas as designated by the State Board of Pharmacy and in good standing.
- BLS and ACLS certification required at hire or with the expectation to complete certification through the site within 1 year from hire (start date). PALS certification optional, but preferred.
- Knowledge of the following skills will be needed to effectively complete job duties: word processing (Word), electronic mail, fax machine, copier, telephones, personal computer, computer printer, automated dispensing cabinets, torsion or electronic balance.
- Excellent interpersonal skills demonstrated through interactions within various teams, staff, management, and during presentations.
