Director Job Description

The Director will report to the Board of Directors for Meals on Wheels of McPherson, KS Inc.

Job Overview:
The Director will be responsible for the day to day activities of the Meals on Wheels Corporation and its program in the City of McPherson. The responsibilities include but, are not limited to all duties involved in operating the corporation and this program. This includes bookkeeping and accounting, screening of prospective participants, all administrative duties, the delivery of meals and the recruiting and supervision of all volunteers.

This is a full time salaried position with a flexible schedule (30-40 hours/week).

Responsibilities And Duties
  • Interview and determine participant eligibility for receiving meals.
  • Schedule daily meals. Prepare a roster of the day’s recipients including diets and special diets of clients. Prepare a separate roster of client addresses divided into routes for delivery, to be included with meals when they leave the kitchen. Coordinate this with the dietary staff.
  • Organize routes for delivery allowing for the most efficient use of driver’s time.
  • Schedule volunteer drivers to deliver the routes, 365 days per year.
  • Deliver routes when volunteer drivers or substitute drivers are not available.
  • Be available each day from 10:45 - 11:30am to meet with drivers when they pick up meals and help them load meals into vehicles as needed.
  • Schedule a replacement for yourself if unable to be there at pick up time, including holidays.
  • Recruit volunteer drivers and maintain a list of trained drivers, including regularly scheduled drivers and substitute drivers.
  • Prepare bi‑monthly schedules and send to drivers as a reminder of their commitment.
  • Responsible for the orientation and training of new volunteer drivers and periodic review of procedures as needed.
  • Track the number of meals delivered to each client and send notices to participants of state funded program for donation solicitation to help defray the cost of their meals. Prepare invoices monthly for all other clients.
  • Accounts receivable records must be maintained as clients pay invoices and donations are received.
  • Maintain monthly records and prepare reports for the Board of Directors including all financial and operation reports.
  • Perform monthly account reconciliations.
  • Prepare a monthly report for the hospital including their payment for meals.
  • Submit required monthly reports to South Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging.
  • Be knowledgeable of Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services requirements and keep program in compliance with those requirements.
  • Prepare periodic proposals and/or reports as necessary to other support agencies including but not limited to United Way of McPherson County, Churches United in Ministry and McPherson County Council on Aging.
  • Maintain current funding and search out new funding opportunities including but not limited to grants, programs, and new fundraisers.
  • Any other tasks, responsibilities or duties assigned by the Board of Directors.
Qualifications
  • Strong people and communication skills.
  • Keyboard, data entry, bookkeeping and accounting skills.
  • Ability to work in Word, Excel and Quick Books Online.
  • Ability to maintain working relationships with dietary staff and hospital administration.
  • Ability to multitask and be flexible by shifting projects and work duties throughout the day.
  • Must have compassion for others and desire to help the elderly.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Posses time management skills.
  • Maintain Class C Drivers license.
Physical And Cognitive Demands

This position is generally set in a comfortable office environment, however, it may occasionally require outside of office work. It requires seeing, hearing, sitting and walking on a daily basis. It may require bending and lifting 25 pounds on an infrequent basis. Donor/client/volunteer field work may occur during or after business hours and it requires talking, writing, driving in inclement weather, walking on uneven surfaces and standing for upwards of 30 minutes straight, depending on the situation.

Compensation
  • $35,000-$45,000 per year

Meals on Wheels of McPherson, KS Inc. is a non‑profit 501c3 organization that serves the elderly and infirm people in the City of McPherson. The primary function of Meals on Wheels is to provide and deliver hot, nutritious meals each day of the year to those elderly and infirm, enabling them to remain in their home living more independently. For those living alone there is the opportunity, even briefly, to have contact with other people.

This human contact is a beneficial part of the program.
