Position Title:

Juvenile Intake and Assessment Worker

Department: Community Corrections, McPherson and Harvey County Offices (1 position in each county).

Position Summary: The JIA Worker is an on‑call position that processes youth at the law‑enforcement center for various criminal behaviors or youth who are deemed to be in need of care. The role requires completing an intake process that includes gathering information from the youth, law‑enforcement officers, and family members and accurately entering the information into a database. The worker coordinates a placement for the youth based on assessed needs and the recommendations of the county attorney.

Work Hours and Availability: The JIA Worker will be available for 12‑hour shifts Monday through Friday and at least one weekend per month. The worker is paid for the on‑call shift whether they are required to report. When notified, the worker must be able to report to the law‑enforcement office within 30 minutes of receiving a call.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate youth intake and data entry.
  • Assess needs and recommend placement to county attorney.
  • Work respectfully with community partners and present concise information.
  • Operate independently under general supervision of the Harvey/McPherson Counties Community Corrections (HMCCC) Deputy Director.
  • Meet strict standards defined by legislation, agency policies, and Kansas Department of Corrections/Juvenile Services.

Employment Restrictions:

  • Adult felony conviction(s).
  • Juvenile felony conviction(s).
  • Confirmed and/or substantiated case of adult abuse or neglect.
  • Confirmed and/or substantiated case of juvenile abuse or neglect.
