Coordinates total nurse care for patient and follows Cath Lab processes and procedures.

Participates in patient care, teaching to patients and family, provides leadership working cooperatively with other health care providers, and provide outcomes appropriate to patient procedures.

Performance:
Assesses the patient's condition and nursing needs. Based on those conditions and needs, develops and implements individual plan of care with revisions as patient's condition and needs change. Responsible for admitting, recovering, and discharging of patients from the Cardiac Cath/ Interventional Radiology Lab. Assists physicians with patient, procedures, and exams. Transcribes physician orders accurately and legibly. Administers medications, including IV's according to hospital policy and procedure.

Assists with inventory. Obtains supplies for individual cases and ensures all appropriate needs are met. Demonstrates cost-conscious use of supplies; maintains equipment in a clean and safe manner. Maintains change sheet for all procedures.

Provide instruction to staff, patient and/or significant other.

Explains nursing intervention.

Develops and implements a plan for nursing care appropriate to the patient and to solve problems concerning patient's mental or physical well-being.

Resolves patient care problems and interact with patients, families, surgical staff and other team members.

Ability to perform and/or assist with all cardiac procedures.

Lift and transport patients, provide proper positioning for patients.

Provides treatment and maintains patient comfort and safety.

Responds to emergency situations.

SPECIFIC JOB DEMANDS

Strength:
Medium Work - Lifting, Carrying, Pushing, Pulling 20 - 50 Lbs. occasionally, 10 - 25 Lbs. frequently or up to 10 Lbs. constantly.

Stooping:
Occasionally - Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist, requiring full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

Reaching:
Frequently - Extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction.

Handling:
Frequently - Seizing, holding, grasping, turning, or otherwise working with hand or hands. Fingers are involved only to the extent that they are an extension of the hand, such as to turn a switch or shift automobile gears.

Fingering:
Frequently - Picking, pinching, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.

Feeling:
Frequently - Noting attributes of objects, such as size, shape, temperature, or texture, by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips.

Talking:
Frequently - Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word to impart oral information to clients or to the public and to convey detailed spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

Hearing:
Frequently - Perceiving the nature of sounds by ear.

Near Acuity:
Frequently - Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less.

Accommodation:
Occasionally - Adjustment of lens of eye to bring an object into sharp focus. This factor is required when doing near point work at varying distances from the eye.

Color Vision:
Frequently - Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Professional knowledge of nursing theory and practice at a level normally acquired through completion of an accredited School of Nursing.

Previous experience preferred. If none, will provide on the job training.

Current State Nursing License.

ACLS, PALS, and BLS required.

CCRN/RCIS preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Normal patient care environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, and temperature changes. Most of the time is standing or walking.

Subject to certain distasteful patient care activities and exposure to communicable diseases, and other illness or diseases.

Working hours will begin at 3pm Monday through Friday. Once cases are completed for the day, the on call nurse will remain on-call until 7a the next day. Sunday/Saturday working hours will be on-call hours of 7a-7a.

Must be able to work Sunday through Saturday every other week and respond within 30 minutes time to hospital when on call. Will be scheduled holiday hours as the work rotation (work 1 week/off 1 week) dictates.

May have exposure to chemical, X-ray, disinfectants and other hazardous products.
