Job DescriptionJob Title: Music Teacher
Reports To: Principal and/or designee
Salary: Based on State and Local Salary Schedule
Employment Status: 10 months (Full-Time)
OverviewThe Music Teacher is responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing a curriculum that encourages students to develop their academic and musical potential. The role follows all Board policies and procedures and collaborates with school leadership.
Responsibilities & Duties- Teach NC Standard Course of Study/Common Core music program.
- Develop and use instructional materials suitable for verbal and visual instruction for learners with a wide range of maturity.
- Provide individualized and group instruction to meet students’ needs and motivate them.
- Establish and maintain standards for student participation and control in all activities.
- Assess academic and social growth of students.
- Maintain accurate student records.
- Provide instruction and activities aligned with school/district policies, goals, and objectives.
- Communicate with parents through various means and hold parent conferences.
- Create an effective learning environment.
- Maintain professional competence through in-service professional growth activities and university courses.
- Collaborate with administrators to develop evaluation methods in accordance with district guidelines.
- Select instructional materials.
- Supervise students during class and out-of-class activities.
- Participate in faculty and district committees.
- Actively participate in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Integrate technology into lessons where appropriate.
- Bachelor’s degree from an approved education program in the subject area.
- NC teaching license or qualifications to obtain a NC teaching license.
Skills and Abilities
- Skilled in assessment and data disaggregation for teaching and learning.
- Ability to meet the needs of all learners.
- Ability to plan, coordinate, and continuously improve instruction.
- Ability to analyze situations, determine options, and make decisions based on facts.
- Ability to develop and compile records and reports.
- Proficiency in using technology devices such as computers, copiers, calculators, etc.
- Ability to evaluate observable, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things.
- Effective verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
- Ability to read various correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, and lists.
- Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using prescribed formats.
- Ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, and follow oral and written instruction.
The employee frequently stands, walks, sits, talks, and listens. Occasional use of hands, fingers, and arms, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Occasionally lifts or moves up to 15 pounds.
