Job Purpose
Within this role the candidate will promote ACPL’s values and mission while following established policies and procedures. The purpose of this position is to serve the informational, reference and reading needs of library patrons of all ages at ACPL and will be expected to perform any and all routine tasks necessary to the operation of the library system. This position works under the supervision of the Community Engagement Librarian.
This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week, benefitted position. While most hours are Monday – Friday, frequent monthly weekend or evening hours are required. This position will be scheduled to work at other library branches throughout Alamance County on a regular basis.
The best candidate will possess a strong commitment to provide customer-focused service for a positive library experience and to relate tactfully and courteously with a wide range of diverse patrons and community members.
- Planning, promoting, and presenting programming for children ages 0 to 18 at partner/outreach locations or in partnership with branches, upon request
- Coordinate the Children’s team to plan system-wide, age-appropriate learning programming, primarily Summer Reading
- Responsible for monthly purchasing of all youth materials in coordination with the Collection Development Librarian
- Assist, cultivate and maintain partnerships with local schools, childcare providers and other youth related organizations to promote reading and digital literacy
- Assist with the library’s community engagement efforts
- Identify library & literacy outreach opportunities and stay informed of activities and services for children and families within the community
- Increase skills and knowledge through professional reading workshops and webinars
- Troubleshoot minor technology related issues, keeping management aware of issues

Health Insurance- Full-time employees are eligible for medical/health (Cigna Insurance) benefits upon the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. Alamance County Government currently offers three plans of medical/pharmacy benefit options including 2 Standard PPO plans and a High-Deductible Health Plan with HSA.
- Alamance County offers one dental insurance (Delta Dental) plan for FT employees at no cost. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of FT employment.
- A voluntary vision program (Superior Vision) is available to FT employees. The current PPO style plan allows employees to seek treatment and hardware from any vision care provider of their choice. The plan, if elected, would be effective the first of the month following 30 days of FT employment. Coverage must be elected within your first 30 days of FT employment or upon a qualifying event.

- Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed.
- Vacation Time – Annual Leave is accrued based on years of service. Employees can accrue from 10-25 days per year.
