The Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring that tooling products meet internal quality standards, customer specifications, and applicable regulatory requirements. This role works closely with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to prevent defects, improve processes, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES- Develop, implement, and maintain quality processes, inspection plans, and control plans for tooling and machined components.
- Perform and support dimensional inspections using CMM equipment; interpret CMM data and reports.
- Review engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications to ensure conformance.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) using tools such as 8D, 5‑Why, and Fishbone.
- Support new tool launches, process validations, and first article inspections (FAI).
- Analyze quality data and trends; recommend and implement continuous improvement actions.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering to resolve quality issues and reduce scrap and rework.
- Conduct internal audits and support external customer or supplier audits.
- Manage nonconforming material processes and disposition activities.
- Assist with supplier quality management, including supplier evaluations and corrective actions.
- Strong understanding of GD&T and dimensional inspection techniques.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and quality reporting systems.
- Strong problem‑solving, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in a manufacturing quality role; tooling or precision machining experience preferred.
- Working experience with CMM operation, basic programming, or data interpretation.
- Experience with quality tools such as FMEA, SPC, control plans, and PPAP/FAI documentation.
- Experience working with molded, stamped, or machined tooling components.
- Familiarity with ISO 9001, IATF 16949, or similar quality management systems.
- Experience with CMM software (e.g., PC‑DMIS, Calypso, or similar).
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality, or a related technical field (or equivalent experience).
- Six Sigma Green Belt or equivalent continuous improvement training.
- Domestic and International travel may be required.
- Must be authorized to work in the USA.
- Physical & Work Environment:
Manufacturing floor and office environment. - Ability to stand, walk, and inspect parts on the shop floor.
- Occasional lifting of tooling components or inspection equipment (within safety guidelines).
