Job Description
A Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and indirect patient care in a variety of healthcare settings. RNs assess patient conditions, develop and implement care plans, administer medications and treatments, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality, safe, and effective patient care. The RN plays a critical role in promoting health, preventing illness, and supporting patient recovery.

Key Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings accurately.

Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized nursing care plans.

Administer medications, IV therapies, and treatments as prescribed.

Monitor patient progress and respond promptly to changes in condition.

Coordinate care with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals.

Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatments, and discharge instructions.

Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).

Ensure compliance with infection control, safety, and regulatory standards.

Supervise Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) and nursing assistants as assigned.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education.

Work Environment
Registered Nurses may work in:

Hospitals (medical-surgical, ICU, ER, OR, labor & delivery, etc.)

Outpatient clinics

Long-term care and rehabilitation facilities

Home health agencies

Public health departments

Specialty practices

Work schedules may include day, evening, night, weekend, or holiday shifts.

Qualifications & Requirements
Education

Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.

BSN preferred in many healthcare organizations.

Licensure

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing in the state of practice.

Compact state license (if applicable) preferred.

Experience

Minimum 1 year of clinical nursing experience preferred (new graduates may apply for entry-level roles).

Specialty-specific experience may be required depending on department.

Certifications

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Advanced certifications such as ACLS, PALS, NRP, or specialty certifications may be required based on unit assignment.
