Job Description & How to Apply Below
Product Ops
Product Ops keeps Thred Up's marketplace accurate and credible: right quality, right information, right price. Authentication is the part customers never see and the part we cannot afford to get wrong. As a Pricing & Authentication Specialist II, you are the person who decides what is real.
You own the calls on our highest-value, highest-risk inventory. Counterfeits keep getting better, and staying ahead of them is the job. At Thred Up's scale we authenticate more, and more varied product than almost anyone in resale, and the goal is to be the best at it in the industry. You are not a leader of people. You are a leader of the product, setting the standards for the team to follow.
WhatYou'll Do
- Authenticate and protect the marketplace: own end-to-end decisions across every risk tier without secondary review, scaling research depth to complexity; meet or beat accuracy goals measured against audits and post-sale returns; catch replication trends early; back every rejection with evidence.
- Build the knowledge base: own and grow the authentication database the team relies on as its reference guide.
- Own the hard calls: serve as the escalation point for PAS 1s, coordinators, and system-flagged edge cases.
- Work the data: treat accuracy, error rates, and audit results as data, not anecdotes; analyze counterfeit and pricing risk across brands and categories to predict emerging trends in the industry; build the reporting that makes the team's accuracy visible and defensible.
- Partner on pricing accuracy: keep pricing tables current across a broad range of retailers; understand and implement pricing for product that does not follow the same pricing rules as the core marketplace; partner and provide insights when trends arise.
- Coach and train: onboard and develop PAS 1s and coordinators; build and deliver training in person; when accuracy slips, find the root cause and fix it (retrain, re-scope, escalate, or rewrite the guide).
- Drive projects and policy: run projects beyond the daily queue with real deliverables; write SOPs where none exist; help propose, pressure-test, and operationalize anti-counterfeit policy.
- Champion Artificial Intelligence & Emerging Technologies: try new tools first and get the floor using them well; act as the human ground truth that trains and corrects them; hold a real point of view on where they work and where they fail; help redraw this role as automation takes on more.
- Analytical by default: you reach for the data first and defend any call with a pattern, a comp, or a number.
- Independent and collaborative: you run your queue and projects with little direction, and pull peers in on the calls that deserve a second set of eyes.
- On-site daily: most of what we do runs remote, but this role is on the floor for team and business presence: the person others can walk up to and the anchor that keeps coaching and standards real in person.
- Measured on outputs: judged on accuracy, project impact, and the capability you build in others, not hours logged.
- 3 to 5 years of hands-on authentication experience, including high-value or luxury product across multiple categories.
- Deep, provable authentication expertise, with the judgment to own complex or ambiguous calls independently. Secondhand experience is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of brands, fashion trends, garment construction, and quality standards.
- Strong analytical and data skills: you pull, read, and reason with risk, trend, accuracy, and pricing data across dashboards and models, and spot the pattern others miss.
- A track record of training and developing others, with documentation another specialist could follow.
- A real point of view on authentication technology and an appetite to champion it, not just use it.
- A history of driving process improvements and managing shifting priorities with minimal direction.
- Discretion to keep business and vendor information confidential, and willing to work on-site at the DC daily.
This role is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
