Assistant Teacher
Job DescriptionGeneral Responsibilities Assists the classroom teachers by securing and implementing daily assignments which are provided for students by their teachers. Notifies teachers of student's assignment to in-school suspension, requests work for students, and assists students individually with special assignments and in academic problem areas.
Essential Duties (These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment to the position.)
- Implement daily assignments provided by teachers
- Secure assignments from teachers for student work
- Notify teachers of student's assignment to in school suspension, requesting work
- Reinforce skills taught by the classroom teacher
- Assist children individually with special assignments and academic problems
- Assist teachers in providing for the individual needs, abilities, and interests of the students
- Assist the teacher in implementing daily and long-range lesson plans
- Record attendance and other information
- Gather resource and supplementary materials
- Prepare instructional materials
- Lead students in fire drills
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal
- Perform related work as required

General knowledge of the practices, methods and techniques used in the teaching children including students with special education needs; ability to maintain files and information; ability to deal effectively with students and teachers; skill in the use of classroom and instructional equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers, parents, students and associates. Able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.
Ability to operate general office equipment, word processing equipment, and microcomputers as required to accomplish the work assigned. Education And Experience High school diploma and previous experience working with groups of children A comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
Special Requirements None FLSA Status Non Exempt Grade 5 Work Schedule 7.25 hrs a day, 10 month (207 days)
Physical Requirements And DisclaimerPhysical Requirements Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to a, personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
No significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and repetitive motions.
