Engineer Section Manager Structure and Bridge
Design complex bridges, box culverts and other structures. Provide engineering solutions to design problems that arise in the design section. Review and coordinate the design and preparation of bridge construction projects performed by consulting engineering firms. To lead team and provide engineering expertise for assigned program areas. Provide engineering assistance and support to internal and external stakeholders. Serve as engineering team leader by managing, supervising, training, coordinating, reviewing, and instructing the work of engineers and technicians.
Coordinate projects with divisions, districts and other governmental agencies. Review and check work of section members. Balance staff workload ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within budget.

- Skill in building networks, relationships and coordination with employees from other divisions, field staff, contractors, manufacturers and federal, state and local representatives.
- Skill in delivering exemplary customer service by self and others.
- Skill in leadership, management, and negotiations with the ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Skill in the use of computers and software applications to include engineering software, project management software and spreadsheet analyses.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with internal and external customers.
- Ability to provide direction to staff, review productivity and performance of staff and determine workload delegation for team.
- Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or related field.
- Experience applying state and FHWA procurement laws, practices and policies and contract management.
- Experience applying team leadership principles; productivity and performance measurement tracking and review.
- Experience in bridge design, structural analysis and FHWA design practices and standards.
- Experience providing guidance on policy and procedure interpretation relating to program areas.
- Leadership experience for a structural engineering team as well as leading the development of engineering projects.
- Skill in the use of computers and software application to include Microsoft Office and engineering related software.
- Valid Professional Engineer's license.
Additional Considerations:
- Experience at a team leader level providing oversight of the work of professional engineering staff; productivity and performance management.
- Experience in planning and project management of capital outlay and other construction projects.
- Experience with oversight of project delivery; the design and analysis of bridges and other structures; and administration of consultant contracts.
- Progressive managerial and leadership experience in a large organization. Experience overseeing professional engineering staff.
- Progressively responsible project management experience. Experience in dealing with local governments, elected officials, citizens, and engineering consultants.
