Position: COMMERCIAL FINANCE MANAGER

Overview

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring a Commercial Finance Manager for the Carter Global Power Division in Richmond, Virginia. The Commercial Finance Manager plays a critical role in structuring, evaluating, and approving long-term contracted distributed power solutions across data centers, utilities, oil and gas, and industrial markets. The position supports the commercial organization by developing pricing structures, financial models, and risk assessments for projects deployed in both grid-interconnected and behind-the-meter configurations.

Responsibilities

Develop pricing structures, financial models, and risk assessments for projects deployed in grid-interconnected and behind-the-meter configurations. Structure, evaluate, and approve long-term contracted distributed power solutions for data centers, utilities, oil and gas, and industrial markets. Support the commercial organization in financial analysis and deal structuring for projects in power generation and energy infrastructure.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required:

Bachelor s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or related field; minimum seven years of experience in project finance, commercial finance, or structured finance, preferably in power generation or energy infrastructure; MBA, CFA, or similar advanced credential; strong experience with long-term contracted assets (Lease, EaaS, PPA, or similar); advanced financial modeling skills (Excel-based project finance models); experience supporting debt financing and lender negotiations;

experience in data center, utility, industrial, or oil and gas markets; prior leadership or people-management experience.

  • Thorough understanding of commercial and financial structuring.
  • Understanding of distributed power generation and capital-intensive projects, deal structuring.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Exposure to tax equity or alternative financing structures.
  • Ability to build and maintain financial models.
  • Ability to identify and evaluate risks associated with proposed transactions.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with Operations to ensure long-term operating assumptions are realistic and achievable.
  • Excellent driving record.
  • Willingness to travel, including overnight or out-of-town via car or airplane.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to engage in effective and persuasive discussions on complex topics with top management and other company personnel.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task, and address issues quickly and professionally.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with demonstrated ability to coordinate multiple competing tasks and demands.
  • Strong analytical skills required.
  • Software proficiency.

Physical Requirements

Physical requirements must be met, including regularly sitting and talking or hearing. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
