Position overview.Sunflower Therapeutics, PBC is recruiting a motivated and highly organized individual to support its mission to dramatically reduce the time and cost to develop and manufacture biologics for patients around the world. Sunflower is advancing “right-sized” and efficient approaches to manufacturing proteins using strain engineering, integrated process development, and automated multi-product facilities. Reporting to the Lead Bioprocess Engineer, the Engineering Technician will be responsible for supporting engineering operations at Sunflower Therapeutics to enable the advancement of Sunflower’s protein manufacturing equipment.

This individual will provide hands‑on technical support across product development, product launch, and manufacturing. A successful candidate will build, maintain, test, and troubleshoot electromechanical, automated, and single‑use biomanufacturing platforms. As Sunflower grows, the Engineering Technician will contribute to the continuous improvement of Sunflower’s automated multi‑product protein manufacturing systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build, assemble, and modify custom single-use assemblies from drawings and SOPs.
  • Collaborate with bioprocess engineers to design, prototype, and evaluate single‑use fluid pathways, providing feedback on component selection, ergonomics, and manufacturability.
  • Perform leak testing, integrity testing, and visual inspections on fabricated single‑use systems prior to deployment in R&D or production workflows
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair electromechanical and automated hardware
  • Perform printed circuit board assembly (PCBA) & cable rework, troubleshooting, and acceptance testing on incoming electronic modules and components
  • Maintain inventory, kitting, and tracking for spare parts, single‑use components, tools, and equipment logs
  • Execute experimental test plans, system evaluations, and acceptance testing on sub‑assemblies and integrated systems; analyze data and perform root‑cause analysis on results
  • Interpret P&IDs, wiring diagrams, and engineering schematics; draft and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Work Instructions (WIs), and test reports.
  • Support R&D lab workflows by assisting with sample handling, operational tasks, and cross‑functional team projects as needed
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma, technical certificate, or equivalent hands‑on experience
  • 1+ years of hands‑on technical experience in an engineering, manufacturing, R&D, NPI, or field service environment (relevant academic work/hands‑on training considered)
  • Proven ability to build, test, troubleshoot, and repair electronics, foundational electrical circuits/connections, and electromechanical sub‑assemblies
  • Foundational knowledge of electrical and mechanical principles (e.g., circuit continuity, basic torque requirements, fitting tolerances)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical diagrams, assembly guides, mechanical layouts, P&IDs, or electrical schematics
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills with a hands‑on, proactive approach to troubleshooting complex issues
  • Excellent verbal and written interpersonal skills; adaptable team player who thrives in a fast‑paced environment
  • Exceptional time‑management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, take ownership of assigned work and quickly learn new tools and processes
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills, manual dexterity, and precision tool handling
  • Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver up to 50 lbs
